WHAT?! Sued for Recording Police

What the hell!!!!!!  I was at work the other day and of course I listen to the radio to make the long shifts a bit more enjoyable.  However, during part of the news session of the morning show, I heard about a current lawsuit where the police department is suing a person for video taping police during an investigation.  And from what I gathered from the story, it sounds as if the police department are winning the case!!!!  The worst part is these lawsuits are popping up more and more!!!

Excuse me but this is just ridiculous!!!!  Why is it that the police department do not want people video taping them??  Is it because they do not want to justify their actions?  If people stop recording police officers then there will be no accountability.  I don't know how many times the police officer's dash cam mysteriously was not working on a certain day that there was an issue with the officer ruffing up someone.

Rambling Thoughts, Discussion, Lawsuit, Police, RecordingThis is just too much!  I personally believe that if you work as a public servant, you should have to answer to any injustices.  The only way to do that is to have brave men and woman who are willing to record police officers when they are doing wrong.  If we stop recording police officers, we would not know about the man that was killed by police officers using a choke hold on him after the man helped break up a fight.  We would also not know about the police officer that rudely belittled a man because he was of his nationality.

My point to this rant is that it is our right to maintain that police officers are doing their job correctly and when they don't, it is (or at least should be) our right to record it so that there is proof of the this injustice.  Police officers are not above the law and when they break the law, they need to be held accountable.  No more of this 'its your word against mine' when you have video to prove the actions.

What are your thoughts?  Where do you stand in this debate?
