Spoiling Your Pup: Bark Box Review

Click here to review my disclosure policy!  This post does contain affiliate links!

Ramblings Thoughts, Bark Box, Review, Dog, Dog Treats, Dog Toys, Subscription Box

There are a bunch of us out there that are pup parents.  You know who you are...the ones that treat your pups like your children.  They get to sleep with you or have a nice comfy bed of their own, you buy the healthiest dog food you can and you make sure your pup has treats and toys to chew on.  I know I am one of those people.

In January of this year I brought home my adorable Kioki.  He is a teacup pomeranian and is just a ball of fluff and energy.  I love how he smiles and plays with my mother's dog (a 150 pound German Shepherd/lab).  He is a sweet boy that loves attention but is a bit of a drama king.

With him being a purebred, I especially wanted to keep him healthy and happy.  Also, with him being a puppy I didn't want all my shoes and clothes torn up from his chewing, so I would go out and buy treats and toys for him to enjoy.  The only problem is he would much rather play with the cat toys and put his toys in 'safe keeping'.

So, 2 months ago I had the opportunity  (financially) to get a Bark Box.  I wanted to see what all the hype was about and I did want to spoil my little boy.

When ordering the box, they ask you what size your pup is...and because kioki is small...obviously I choose small and it costed $30 for the box.  It came in a matter of no time and had 2 toys and 3 treats in it.  And let me just tell you, Kioki goes crazy for just the box because of all the smells coming from it.

If you want to hear my full review, see what actually came in the box and see how Kioki reacts...click on the video below.

Roasted Parm Brussels Sprouts

Click here to review my disclosure policy!  This post does contain affiliate links!

Now, I will be the first one to admit that eating healthy or eating your vegetables is not something I enjoy all the time....I would much rather eat a cheeseburger with loaded cheese fries or ice cream.  But if you are trying to eat healthier, I like I am, you have to step away from the ice cream and cheeseburgers and eat more fruit and vegetables.

I haven't had an real issue with fruit...I like them all.  Of course there are ones that I prefer over others...such as WATERMELON.  But when it comes to vegetables, there are a few that I just do not like.  Brussels sprouts is definitely a vegetable that I do not like.  People used to tell me that if you like cabbage you will like brussels sprouts....boy were they SO WRONG!!!

With that being said, I am a firm believer that you have to experiment with food.  Just because I do not like brussels sprouts boiled, that doesn't mean I would not like them cooked some other way with different seasonings.  Hence, my recipe for y'all to try

Roasted Parm Brussels Sprouts

Ramblings Thoughts, Tasty Tuesday, Cooking, Roasted, Vegetables, Recipes, Brussels Sprouts

What you need:

2-3 lb. brussels sprouts
2 c. bread crumbs
1 c. Parmesan cheese
1/2 c. oil
2 Tbsp. black pepper
2 Tbsp. garlic powder
2 tsp. salt

Directions:

1.  Preheat oven to 425.

2.  In a large bowl, combine all ingredients.  Make sure to thoroughly coat all brussels sprouts.

Maybelline Great Lash Royal Blue Mascara

Click here to review my disclosure policy!  This post does contain affiliate links!

Ramblings Thoughts, Influenster, Maybelline, Mascara, Great Lash, Makeup, Review

I know I am not the only woman out there that loves her makeup.  Now, I do not have a huge suitcase of makeup, let alone even a drawer.  Even though every once in a while I will get in this mood where I want to change up my makeup and add some more to my look, I always end up with going back to wearing only 3 makeup products on a regular....eyebrow liner, mascara and eyeliner.

Through the years of always sticking with these three products, I have tried many different brands to find ones that I just cannot live without.  Not too long ago, I found the mascara that I cannot live without...thanks to INFLUENSTER (click here to check it out).

So, I was hesitant at first when I was asked by Influenster to try another mascara.  But I did notice that it was not in my go-to color of black, plus the fact that I would get to try it for free helped make my decision of trying it with an open mind.

I must say I do chuckle at seeing the actual tube of Maybelline Great Lash.  I say that because I remember when I was a little girl, sitting on the toilet (not using it though), watching my mom great ready or as she called it, 'putting her face on'.  Now, this is back in the 80's and wouldn't you know it that she had a bottle of Maybelline Great Lash mascara and it looks the same.  I guess that is one way for consumers to recognize a product....by keeping their product packaging the same.  I think it is cute....a little reminder of my childhood when I would watch my mom get ready.

So, knowing that I already have a go-to mascara, what did I think about this one?  Do it get my approval?  Do I like the royal blue color?  Well, what are you waiting for....click the video below to watch my review.

If you would like to pick some up for yourself Amazon has them for cheap and you don't even have to leave the house!!!

Zesty Lemon Poke Cake

This recipe is for all my lemon lovers out there.  I am beginning to love that zesty lemon zing, but let me tell you, it did take awhile.  I have been making lemon cakes and bars for a while now and I hear nothing about good reviews from my people so I thought it was time to share with y'all.

One thing that I do love about lemon is that it is so easy to work with.  If you like the whole sweet and sour combination that lemon desserts are your thing.  I believe most of my residents like the sweet and sour combination because they practically beg me to make one of my lemon desserts.

Sponsed Post: Useful Decor Ideas For Your Home

Click here to review my disclosure policy!  This post does contain affiliate links!

This is a sponsored post that contains affiliate links

When I go shopping, I always check out the home decor section of each store. So many decorations I see are completely useless and I always wonder why people would want to spend money on them, but of course, to each his own! I started thinking about it and there are so many useful decor items out there that would help you, your guests and your household, so I wanted to help you out by coming up with a list. Check it out below:

Useful Decor Ideas For Your Home

Candles
I have candles everywhere in my house. They not only look good, but they smell even better. When I have candles lit around the house, it makes my home feel more inviting and also clean. If you put them in candle holders, or decorate around each candle, it gives it an extra touch and will fit in with your other decor more compared to a plain candle. One of my favorite ways to use candles is for a table setting. If you are trying to have a romantic dinner, add a few candles and dim the lights. While searching Pinterest, almost all of the pictures under “romantic dinner tables” include candles and flowers.

pascal-muller-151589.jpg

Blanket Basket
Blankets are so important to have sitting around for house guests, but having too many blankets everywhere makes your house look cluttered and can even make you uncomfortable when they start falling on you while you are sitting on the couch trying to relax. Adding a wicker blanket basket by your couch, or an upholstered, soft basket to bedrooms is a great way to keep your blankets put away neatly, while adding a piece of decor to your home.

Herb Box
Having an herb box in your home is an amazing way to add a pretty home decor piece while also being able to eat your herbs that you grow. According to Wellness Mama, there are quite a few health benefits from eating herbs and spices, and growing your own is definitely ideal.

matt-montgomery-3790.jpg

Cork Holder
If you are a big wine drinker, having a cork holder can be a great item to add to your home! If you think about it, cork holders reduce (a small amount of) trash, so you are not only getting a useful decor piece out of it, but you are also keeping your household green, even if it is only one cork at a time. There are so many different options for cork holders - I have seen some on walls, some that sit on the ground and others that are small enough to sit on the counter - I think this is all about what you prefer.

Coat Rack
Coat racks used to be pretty plain and then they went out of style for a while, but they are back and better than ever! If you search around, you can find very pretty coat racks that will add some character to your home. Sit the coat rack by the door that most of your guests come in - this way, they can always drop their coats, hats and bags when they first come in the door and you will not have to worry about them sitting around.

Sword
A quality sword is an amazing option to have mounted on your wall and it has a few great uses! Not only does it add a conversation piece to your home that your guests will talk about, but it also adds a self defense option. Not all swords are “quality,” though, so make sure you do you research on where you purchase yours from!

Swords of Northshire sells many hand forged and battle ready weapons for your use. On top of battle ready swords, they also offer knives and collector’s replicas, as well, so if you are a movie or video game fan, be sure to check those out! Customer service is their top priority, so you always know that your sword or knife from Swords of Northshire will be the best product out there. If you do not know much about swords, do not fear! They make it very easy to answer all of your questions by providing a number for you to call, an email, and also a very helpful live chat.

House Plants
House plants are the best kind of decor piece you can have around. It is a proven fact that being outdoors reduces your anxiety and stress levels, so why not bring the outdoors inside? Not only do plants reduce anxiety and stress levels, but they will also add color to your room and they will purify the air. Don’t forget to research what the best plants are, recommended by NASA!

Lamps
I feel like this might be an obvious one, but lamps have definitely become decorative pieces! A long time ago, people would use just any kind of lamp that worked, not caring about how they look. More and more, I see “styles” of lamps flooding the stores. This is an easy addition to your home that will add the perfect small touch and the good part is that updating your side lamps is not that expensive!

I hope this short list of useful decor ideas helps you out! Do you have a favorite decorative item that you have in your home? Let me know below and don’t forget to check out Swords of Northshire when you are in search for your next sword to mount!

Shopping Tip: What To Buy in April

Click here to review my disclosure policy!  This post does contain affiliate links!

Ramblings Thoughts, Shopping, Money Saving, Budget Friendly

Shopping....I don't know about y'all but I love shopping.  I don't necessarily love spending my money though.  What is even worse is when I have to buy something that I was not planning on buying and then I find out that if I would have just waiting a little longer I would have saved a bunch of money.

Now, there are a bunch of apps out there to help you out when this happens like Walmart Saving Catcher but I forget all the time to use it....and then I kick myself later for it.  With that being said, there has to be a time of year when certain items and products are being sold at the lowest, right?

RIGHT!!!!  I have the inside scoop on when to buy certain items and products.  Now, I am not talking about products that we all typically buy on a regular basis.  Its like gardening tools, certain clothing items, beds or bed sets or air conditioners...items like that are the items that you can save big if you know when to buy them.  Then there is always trying to figure out what food is best to buy when....

This is the third installment of 12 posts that will help you know when to buy those needed items and save a good amount of money.

So, what should we buy in the month of April?  Check out this list:

Laptops

Items at Fleamarkets (haggle down when weather is bad)

Summer Flights (for June and July, book on Tuesdays)

Winter weather Tools (snow blowers, shovels, etc)

Ham (after Easter)

Artichokes

Zucchini

Scrumptious Pot Roast

Click here to review my disclosure policy!  This post does contain affiliate links!

If there is one thing that sticks out from my childhood is the Sunday dinners that we had at my great-grandmother's.  She was the best cook and was able to make miracles out of the income she had.  Now, back then, the food was my main focus.  It was so yummy (and I am not saying that my mom wasn't a good cook, because she learned from my great-grandmother) and I just loved how warm and comfortable being in her presence was.

However, now that I am an adult and look back on those times, I don't just think about the food (solely, at least), I remember all the times that I got to spend time with family members.  The kids would all play together and the adults would all be in the kitchen with her chit chatting and catching up.

What really sucks now that I am in my thirties and my great grandmother has passed away, those family meals do not happen unless it is the holidays.  But thankfully, I am able to cook those traditional Sunday meals that bring the family members drooling over to my house (even if it is my immediate family).  And one of favorite meals is my scrumptious pot roast and because my family enjoys it so much, I figured y'all would enjoy it too.

Scrumptious Pot Roast

Ramblings Thoughts, Recipe, Dinner, Tasty Tuesday, Pot Roast, Sunday Dinner

What you need:

Ramblings Thoughts Scrumptious Pot Roast Recipe
3 lb. pork or beef roast
3 lb. med potatoes
3 lb. carrots
1 medium onion
1 pkt. brown gravy
1 pkt. au jus gravy
2 tbsp. black pepper
2 tbsp. garlic powder

Directions:

1.  In a large skillet on medium-high heat, sear black pepper and garlic powdered seasoned roast on both sides about 10 to 20 minutes depending on thickness.  (*Key is to leave on first side until the side of the meat is no longer red, but a brown color and then flip to the other side just long enough to get the sear color on that side).  Put meat into crockpot.

Ramblings Thoughts Scrumptious Pot Roast Recipe

2.  Peel and cut potatoes, carrots and onions into bite size and add around the meat in the crockpot.

Ramblings Thoughts Scrumptious Pot Roast Recipe

3.  In a measuring cup, add 2 c. and both gravy packets.  Mix thoroughly.  Pour over meat and vegetables.

4.  Fill the crockpot the rest of the way with water, cover and cook on medium for 4-5 hours or until meat is falling apart and vegetables are tender.  Enjoy!!!

Style Hack: Pain-free Ink

Click here to review my disclosure policy!  This post does contain affiliate links!

For those of you that do not know, I LOVE tattoos.  I have several of them and I do plan on getting more.  People were definitely not lying when they say it is addicting.  For me, I get an adrenaline rush thinking about it.  My heart quickens and I even think my brain starts to send off those 'feel good' signals in my brain every time I am in a tattoo parlor deciding what exactly I want to get.  The feeling just gets more intense as I talk to the tattoo artist and come up with a plan for the tattoo.

Ramblings Thoughts Style Hack: Pain-Free InkEven though I would not back out of getting a tattoo, when I get in that chair and the artist starts to prepare his work space and my skin, I get butterflies and I begin to think that I cannot believe I am about to do this.  Now, I have gone through this process on three different times and I have enjoyed it each time.  However, I would be lying if I told you there are no pain to getting tattoos....because that would be an absolute lie.

Ramblings Thoughts Style Hack: Pain-Free InkMy first tattoo, which was on the side of my calf, actually did not hurt all that bad.  I ended up getting my name in beautiful, bold cursive letters.  There was a slight burning sensation but nothing too unbearable.  My second tattoo is on the side of my foot and it is 2 butterflies with a swirly thing.  This one didn't hurt that bad until the tattoo artist got close to my ankle and definitely when he got to my baby toe.  It was an uncomfortable burning sensation.  But I still was ok.

About two years ago I treated myself to a cover up....I wanted to cover up my name tattoo.  Needless to say, I got tired of people asking why I had my own name tattooed on my body.  At that point in my life I was getting out of 2 relationships (one right after the other) that left me feeling broken and lost.  I needed something to symbolize rebirth, moving on, being strong.....so, I ended up deciding on a purple lotus flower.  Now, let me tell you, that was the most painful tattoo I have had.  Not only did the artist have to cover up that lovely bold 'Holly' tattoo but also, he had to work in the color on top of scar tissue.  But, I am extremely happy with the results.
Ramblings Thoughts, Tip, Trick, Hack, Temporary, Tattoo, Ink, Momentary Ink

So, why am I rambling on about my tattoos?  Well, not everyone can handle the pain of tattoos...which is perfectly fine.  Or, there are those people that just don't want something permanent on their body but love the looks of a certain tattoo.  What about those instances when you are playing around with an idea of a tattoo but not sure how it would look on your body?  Well, I found the best hack that will help all y'all.

Momentary Ink is a lovely site where you can create a temporary tattoo that will last for 2 solid weeks on your skin.  Just think of those temporary tattoos that we all had as a kid.....now think of the adult version where the graphics and details are a lot better and the tattoos are available in different sizes.  What are y'all waiting for?  Go create your own tattoos.

Walmart Beauty Box Subscription

Click here to review my disclosure policy!  This post does contain affiliate links!

Ramblings Thoughts, Review, Beauty, Subscription Box, Walmart Beauty Box, Health and Beauty, Beauty Samples

I am sure y'all have seen all the different subscription boxes out there that offer products being sent to your home ever so often for a fee.  If you haven't, what the heck????  Have you been living under a rock?

Most of the subscriptions boxes are geared towards the female consumers with boxes that offer makeup, fragrances, athletic clothes and misc. woman health and beauty products to try.  The idea behind these boxes is to be able to try products before buying them, so the boxes tend to be filled with sample sizes and coupons.

I am telling y'all....a BUNCH of companies have jumped on this subscription box trend.  Especially the beauty box trend.  I guess there are plenty of beautiful ladies out there, like me, that wants to see all the new products coming out and want to be able to try them before we drop our hard earned money on the full-sized product.  Ladies, let's face it....it can be expensive to look as good as we do.  Hair supplies and equipment, make up, fragrance, clothes, skin care products, shoes and accessories all can break the bank.

I personally was not going to subscribe to any box because I have companies contacting me to review their products but I feel that I at least need to check out one subscription box to see what it is all about and of course, to see if it is worth the money.  So, I finally decided to subscribe to the Walmart Beauty box.  It cost $5 shipping for every box and you get 4 boxes a year (seasonal).

So, what do I think of the boxes?  Is it worth the $5 for each box?  Is the products worth trying?  What are some of the products that come in the boxes?  Well, y'all know the deal....click the video below to find out what I think about the Walmart Beauty Box!!!

Old-fashion Corn Pudding

Click here to review my disclosure policy!  This post does contain affiliate links!

For those of you that do not know....my full-time job that pays the bills right now is working as a dietary manager for an assisted living facility for elderly clients.  In other words, I am the head cook for a facility that cares for live-in residents that are in their later years of life.

I have to admit, my clients tend to be the toughest food critics ever....some times.  I think there has only been a few meals that I have served in my 2+ years with them that not one client has had some complaint or wanted something else.  But, when you are older not only do you lose most of your taste buds (you are only able to taste salt and sugar when your older) but you tend to be fussy and stubborn about what you eat.  As frustrating as that is to me...as the cook, I do understand that if I was living somewhere and not able to cook for myself, I would want my food a certain way and I would only eat certain things.

One thing that I can almost guarantee most, if not all, my clients love to eat is old fashion, comfort food.  Food that they grew up on or food that they had in their house as an adult.  Nights that I serve homemade Mac' n Cheese, Meatloaf or even chili are all nights that I have plenty of clients asking for seconds and where I don't have any leftovers to put away.  This is it's self is a sign of success to me.

Unfortunately, after doing this job for over 2 years and being the only one in charge of trying to fix and change up a menu that was given to the company, I get lost for ideas on what to make for them.  I want to keep it interesting for them and I want to be able to provide food that they will enjoy....but I don't know a bunch of old fashion recipes.  With that being said....I am always on the prowl for recipes to try and make my own by adding tweaks here and there.

I was lucky enough to stumble across a recipe for corn pudding from the company that provides out menus and so I had to try it and y'all should know that I tweaked the recipe so that not only is it old-fashion but that it has a newer twist on it so that people of all generations can enjoy this side dish.

Old-Fashion Corn Pudding

What you need:

2 lb. whole kernel corn, frozen
3 eggs
2 1/2 c. Milk
1/2 c. onions, diced
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. black pepper

Direction:

1.  Preheat oven to 350.  Thaw corn.

2.  In a large bowl, combine corn, the 3 egg yolks (set aside the egg whites), milk, onions, salt and black pepper.

Blondie Brownies!!!!

Just because I am trying (emphasis on trying lately) to eat healthier that does not mean everyone in my life is.  The unfortunate thing is that I am a full time cook for an assisted living facility and my residents would start a riot if all I did was serve them fruit as a dessert every day.

Not only that, but even if you are on a diet or just eating healthier, you have to treat yourself once in a while.  If you don't, you are more likely to give up your diet or healthy eating and binge on all the food you have been avoiding.  So, treat yourself here and there...to keep yourself sane!!!

Now, I LOVE me some brownies!!!!  The ooey-gooey-er the better.  But for those that don't want that all the much chocolate melting in your mouth (just plain craziness if that is you....not judge though), you can have Blondies.  And I happen to have a great recipe for you to use.

Personally, I think Blondies are more like a cookie.  They are just thick like a brownie and cut into squares.  But this would be great for all my chocolate chip cookie lovers too.  So, whether you don't like all the chocolate a brownie has to offer or if you just love you some chocolate chips cookies, then you definitely want to add this recipe to your recipe books.
